Welcome to the October Coast Summer Art Camp! Running throughout the summer of 2026 in Berwyn, IL, our camp is designed to keep creativity alive while school is out.

Upcycling Drive

We keep costs incredibly low by utilizing upcycled materials, bulk basics, and natural items. Check back here for weekly updates and supply drives! Currently looking for clean paper towel rolls.

10-Week Curriculum

Our "Summer of Creation" explores a different theme every week. Kids are split into two age groups (5-6 and 7-12) to ensure projects are engaging and age-appropriate.

Week 1: Cardboard City (Architecture)

  • Ages 5-6: Painting large appliance boxes to make "houses" and crawling through them.
  • Ages 7-12: Constructing miniature cities, dioramas, or marble runs using upcycled boxes and tape.

Week 2: Nature's Palette (Eco-Art)

  • Ages 5-6: Mud painting, leaf rubbings with unwrapped crayons, and twig collecting.
  • Ages 7-12: Andy Goldsworthy-inspired temporary land art, crushed berry paint, and sun prints (cyanotypes).

Week 3: Messy Masterpieces (Process Art)

  • Ages 5-6: Bubble painting, finger painting, and sponge stamping.
  • Ages 7-12: Jackson Pollock-style splatter painting outdoors, pendulum painting, and tape-resist geometric art.

Week 4: The Puppet Theater (Storytelling)

  • Ages 5-6: Paper bag puppets and simple sock puppets.
  • Ages 7-12: Papier-mâché marionettes or shadow puppets using black cardstock.

Week 5: Cultural Crafts (World Art)

  • Ages 5-6: Easy tissue-paper "stained glass" and simple origami.
  • Ages 7-12: Miniature recycled piñatas, yarn weaving on cardboard looms, or Mexican folk art mirrors.

Week 6: Wild Wearables (Fashion)

  • Ages 5-6: Macaroni necklaces, paper crowns, and superhero masks.
  • Ages 7-12: Tie-dyeing old t-shirts, complex friendship bracelets, or custom tote bags.

Week 7: 2D Explorations (Drawing)

  • Ages 5-6: Collaborative mural drawing on giant rolls of butcher paper.
  • Ages 7-12: Designing comic books, basic anatomy, and continuous contour drawing.

Week 8: Junk Drawer Sculptures (Upcycling)

  • Ages 5-6: Gluing bottle caps, buttons, and pipe cleaners to heavy cardboard.
  • Ages 7-12: Creating "robot" sculptures using tin cans, wire, old CDs, and hot glue.

Week 9: Under the Sea (Water & Color)

  • Ages 5-6: Watercolor and salt painting, egg-carton sea turtles.
  • Ages 7-12: Wet-on-wet watercolor landscapes, wax resist painting, and 3D paper fish mobiles.

Week 10: The Camp Gallery (Exhibition)

  • All Ages: Finishing up favorite projects, creating "artist statements," and setting up a gallery. On Friday, parents are invited to walk through the space to see what the kids created!
